This painting made it to the top fifteen percent in the Bold Brush Painting contest
sponsored by Fine Art Studio Online. The Artist (Stephen David Rathburn) painted it in studio from sketches and photos from a winter trip he took along Rock Creek, a stream that flows out of Red Lodge Montana. Rathburn paints mostly with palette knife and uses only seven colors. He prefers to mix all his colors from six colors on his palette. For instance, he mixes all of his greens mostly from Lemon Yellow and Paynes Grey.
